7 tips to prevent & fight acne!

If you're like most people you've probably suffered from some form of Acne in your life. Nothing deflates your confidence more than a breakout and if you're reading this you've more than likely tried everything under the sun to get rid of it! There are many possible causes and treatments for Acne and every person is uniquely different but the good news is that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

1. Wash your face daily

The first and most important rule isn't ground breaking: Remember to wash your face! Cleansing and treating your skin twice a day is the best way to keep breakouts away.

2. Regularly change your towel

When you think about it, consistently reaching for your go-to face towel every day is like reusing a dinner napkin over and over again. Using dirty towels can harbour bacteria, and they can even introduce new bacteria to your skin, which may lead to more pimples. Thankfully, this doesn't mean you need to reach for a new towel every single time you wash your face, you can stick to switching out your towels on a weekly basis.

3. Use a face mask

The right face mask can help hydrate skin, remove excess oils and help improve the appearance of your pores. Green Tea clay masks are very popular right now, which are full of antioxidants. An excellent way to help pull out the dirt that could be the direct cause of your bumps, while calming irritated skin. A face mask should be used 3-4 times a week for best results.

4. Moisturise

Worried moisturiser will make your acne worse? Think again — it can actually help improve your skin. “If the skin surface is dry and dehydrated, the oil glands tend to overproduce oil and this can make acne worse. Hydrating the skin surface can re-balance oil glands and help control acne and improve healing

5. Don’t pick

Your hands aren’t always clean, and dirt under your fingernails and improper squeezing can cause acne to spread or lead to further infection. Plus, popping can lead to pitted scars, which stick around much longer than that pimple would.

6. Tailor your diet

Sad but true: Any foods that cause a spike in insulin can lead to inflammation and an acne flare. Leafy green vegetables and other brightly-coloured fruit and vegetables which are rich in antioxidants and nutrients dampen inflammation and improve skin quality. Limit intake of dairy products, which can contain hormones and antibiotics that can worsen acne breakouts. Other skin-boosting superfoods include eggs, nuts, legumes, and quinoa.

7. Drink plenty of water

Aside from hydrating your whole body, drinking enough water also hydrates your skin cells. This is great when you have dry skin, but it’s also good for helping you get rid of dead skin cells that build up on the surface of your face too. By doing this, you’re giving your skin a cleaner start that will help prevent it from building up contaminants that lead to acne
